Belarus Is the Most Corrupted Country in the World

This is one more reason why Belarusians live in poverty.

The latest ranking of the Russian Profil (partner of authoritative German Der Spiegel) published data on the corruption level in different countries. Referring to the information of Transparency International, which takes into account not only the opinion of experts, but also businesses operating in a country, authors make a disappointing conclusion: Belarus is one of the most corrupted European states.

In particular, the country takes position 102, which is much lower than results of our European neighbours: Poland (30), Lithuania (33) and Latvia (39). Belarus is among countries with even more corrupted systems - Russia (111), Ukraine (122).

However, analysts have brought another interesting connection - the higher the corruption level in the country, the poorer people are there, Salidarnasts writes.

Denmark, Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium and Estonia with almost a zero corruption are mentioned as an example. They do not have vast territories or oil and gas fields, but they have managed to provide their citizens with very high income. For example, the Estonian GDP per capita today is about 17.2 thousand dollars, which is more than three times higher than Belarus (5700)! A more developed economy, in turn, allows citizens having a higher level of income.

It turns out that the recently published information about 180 dollars a month in Belarus can be considered from a different angle. It is wondering how the welfare level of Belarusians would change, if government expenditures were transparent and every bureaucrat was liable to the Belarusian society...
