Number Of Belarusians Using Tor Fell Twice

A sharp drop in number of users occurred at the beginning of December.

Problems have appeared in Belarus regarding connecting Tor-browser to Internet. The browser allowing to bypass censorship on the Internet no longer connects to the servers. Some users have solved the problem. Neither Tor's website, nor addresses used to connect Tor-Browser are on the list of restricted access. Was it a blocking? The Information Security Specialist Anatol Martsinkevich answers these question, Euroradio reports.

According to Anatol Martsinkevich, the blockings started at the beginning of December and the problem is not yet solved. Some users managed to bypass the blockings due to alternative translators – bridges, offered by Tor itself. However, some users still encounter problems.

It can be clearly seen from the statistics, provided by Tor project. The number of users connecting from Belarus has always been about 5000, while at the beginning of December the number has dropped by half.
