Belarus Investigative Committee Sees No Crime In Student's Beating By Riot Police

33

The Investigative Committee refused to open a criminal case over the beating of a student Kastus Akhromenka at a police station.

“The criminal case upon the application of Akhromenka has been dismissed for the lack of evidence,” – the press service of the Movement For Freedom quotes the decree, which has been signed by senior investigator of the Investigative Committee Zhukouski and head of the Kastrychnitski District Department of the Investigative Committee Baryshau.

At that the investigators orally informed that they could reconsider the decision after the appearance of the video. Then, perhaps, there would be further proceedings.

Kastus Akhromenka is 21, he is a student of the Belarusian State Academy of Music, and a musician of Children of Catacombs band (Dzietsi padziamellia). On December 20 after a concert he and his friend were detained by riot policemen in a railway station. As said by Akhromenka, riot policemen got very aggressive when they heard Belarusian speech.
