Polatsk Sole Traders: We Should Unite And Take To Main Square

Going to Balgalor Square is the same as thumbing one’s nose at the regime behind its back.

Polatsk businessman Henadz Berdzyaeu doesn’t support the proposal of the Republican public organization "Perspective", announced at the Forum of entrepreneurs on February 1 - to hold a rally on Bangalore Square in Minsk.

He urges representatives of small business from all cities of Belarus to unite and gather at a protest rally on the main square of the country. Henadz Berdzyaeu announced this to Radio Svaboda:

- It was announced on the meeting of the sole traders that they will gather at a rally on Bangalore Square on February 15. People who came to Minsk to attend a meeting initiated by the “Perspective”, - they came from different regions, cities and villages of Belarus. These people have no idea what Bangalore Square looks like. It is a place to walk your dog, not a place to hold meetings of sole traders. Holding a rally there means giving up the hard won ground. All these visits to the district, city and regional executive committees gradually, step by step approached our goal to reach Minsk in order to make a claim about ourselves and express our position in an organized way. Considering this, to gather on Bangalore Square is the same as to thumb one’s nose at the regime behind its back: no one is going to hear it, no one is going to see it. We could throw a party in the nearest forest with the same result. Meanwhile, people run out of money, people are confused and can give up. This shouldn’t happen, we have to fight and ensure our right to work. It is necessary that all the active people united, and I urge people to contact me via my personal phone, through social networks. We have a coordination center, and we will discuss our further joint actions.

Two years ago I attended a meeting organized by the "Perspective", and I really liked it. But two years have passed and we are still writing requests and petitions. I don’t want to cause a split, I want the government to feel pressure from all sides. People in the “Perspective” do their job, but they are a bit wrong this time. We don’t need Bangalore Square - don’t take us to woods. We need to be in the center and the regime should hear us. If for any reason Shumchanka is not ready to take the people to the street, then there are other people who are ready to unite us and lead to the main square, because the authorities don’t hear us.
