Belarusian Opposition Leaders Offered To March To Yanka Kupala’s Monument On Freedom Day

The first meeting of the organizing committee for the celebration of Freedom Day on March 25 has been held today.

The participants agreed to apply for a march from the Academy of Science to the monument to Yanka Kupala.

“Freedom Day is a celebration of the Belarusian spirit. It is important to celebrate it as wide as possible,” – deputy chairman of the movement For Freedom Ales Lahvinets said, who represents the movement in the organizing committee and is planning to become the applicant for the rally.

According to him, “this year as never before is giving telling arguments in favor of the point that freedom and independence are the guarantee of well-being.”

The organizing committee called on Belarusians to join the celebration of the Freedom Day as wide as possible, Lahvinets added.

As the application reads, the assembly point is the Academy of Sciences at 18.00 on March 25, after a short rally participants are to march to Yanka Kupala’s monument, to lay flowers and hold a rally, – chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Aliaksei Yanukevich said.

Alongside with Ales Lahviniets and Aliaksei Yanukevich, leader of the Belarusian opposition, former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich, chairman of the United Civil Party Anatol Liabedzka, chairman of the Movement of Solidarity Razam Viachaslay Siuchyk took part at the meeting of the organizing committee. The next meeting of the organizing committee is scheduled for February 9.
