Bureaucrats Try to Talk Around Crisis

It is the second week when deputy prime-minister Natallia Kachanava can't stop "having the hiccups".

A wave of comments of angry citizens seemingly subsided, but bureaucrats flew to help and exposed the topic to the light again.

This time Lilia Ananich thunders against media for misunderstanding. These "unfair" journalists took wrong phrases out of context and wrote "eye-catching" headlines without working through the topic.

"The Internet that claims to be a media outlet has a tendency to find out an eye-catching phrase and then serve it with a special editorial sauce", the minister resented commenting on utterances of Kachanava.

Chairman of the Belteleradio followed Ananich and accused independent media of "misrepresenting and sense distortion." Henadz Davydzka laid on the line that the situation with Kachanava was grounded on "fee-based articles" and "aimed to destabilize the situation."

Frankly speaking, I do not understand what bureaucrats mean. It is fair in case Natallia Kachanava did not mention wages for young coaches. Or was that not about them? Or was the wage of $1300 mentioned, not Br1.3 million? Then yes, sensation-crazy journalists are to blame.

But these defenders of Kachanava do not hurry to explain faults of media. Why not? I, for the life of me, have not noticed any misrepresenting and sense distortion. That was a quote even not commented on. Young coaches had an opportunity to confirm words of deputy prime minister.

It turns out that Kachanava's defenders advocate not for sanctity of words and perception. Please, note that no one of the abovementioned turned into documenting mistakes in numbers or telling about good life of young specialists. They just discuss the topic and threaten to take tough measures for a quotation (!).

The political science has such definition as "to talk around the problem." It means to get off the subject. It is just trolling. It seems like bureaucrats do the same now. By all means they are trying to divert attention from the core problem and not to let us understand that it touches upon all spheres in the country.

But they will fail. The crisis does not care.
