No special events with the participation of the Nobel Prize winner are planned.

The 23th Minsk International Book Fair is to be held without participation of Svetlana Alexievich. No special events with the Nobel Prize laureate are planned. The Belarusian author could be presented by her Russian publishers only, tut.by writes.

The main themes of the upcoming forum are the 500th anniversary of book-printing, the 30th anniversary of Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the 25th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States foundation, jubilees of classical authors of the national literature and the Year of Culture. It was said by Information Minister Liliya Ananich at a press-conference.

The creative work of Svetlana Alexievich fits the planned format perfectly well: The Chernobyl Prayer is related to the anniversary of the catastrophe at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Second Hand Time – to the anniversary of the CIS, and the fact of being awarded with the Nobel Prize itself – to the Year of Culture. But the organisers are not going to draw such parallels.

– The rights for publication of Svetlana Alexievich’s books belong to a Russian publishing house, Vremia. They are going to come to our exhibition. And I think that the works of the Nobel Prize winner are to be presented at their exhibition stand, – Ananich said. – This topic is to be reflected at the exhibition without doubt. Especially among writers. At the symposium of writers, among other things, achievements of the Belarusian literature for today are to be discussed.

The 23rd Minsk International Book Fair will take place in a pavilion in Peramozhtsau Avenue, 14 on 10-14 February. Entrance is free. Armenia will be represented as a guest of honor. There are 29 countries on the list of participants.
