Bohdan Yaremenko: The Trouble Is That Ukraine's Oligarchs Are in Quest for Personal Gain
Bohdan Yaremenko

It is easier for Ukrainian businessmen to develop structured finance with colleagues in Russia and Belarus.

It does not mean there are no tacit agreements between Ukraine and Lukashenka's regime.

Bohdan Yaremenko, Ukraine's diplomat and Chairperson of the Board of Maidan of Foreign Affairs Foundation, shared his opinion with charter97.org.

- Belarus made more than a half of all oil logistics of this January to Ukraine. Import made up more than $130 million. Is it the main factor that affects Ukraine's loyalty towards dictator's regime in Belarus?

- I think that supply level of one or another production, including oil products, may hardly be a result of some attitude or agreements with Aliaksandr Lukashenka.

- Does Russian oil count, if it is the source for Belarusian oil products?

- In this particular case Ukrainian business and the government are deprived of any patriotic sentiments. They are, as usual, in quest for personal gain. And, of course, it is easier to develop structured finance with colleagues in Russia and Belarus.

I think such situation proves no patriotism on the part of most Ukrainian businessmen involved in oil product sales.
