Opposition Leaders In Belarus Demand Cancelation Of “Black Lists”

Leaders of the democratic forces have made a statement demanding to cancel the joint Russian - Belarusian black list of persons banned from entering the country for political reasons.

The statement was signed by Pavel Seviarynets and Vital Rymasheuski (BCD), Anatol Liabedzka (UCP), Aliaksandr Malinkevich, Yury Hubarevich, Ales Logvinets (“For Freedom” movement), Aliaksey Yanukevich (BPF), Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu (“For Statehood and Independence of Belarus”) Mikalai Statkevich (BSDP “People’s Assembly”), Artur Finkevich (Young Belarus), Viachaslau Siuchyk (solidarity movement "Razam").

Website charter97.org publishes the opposition leaders’ statement in full.

The joint Russian - Belarusian black lists should be abolished.

We, the leaders of the Belarusian democratic forces, strongly condemn the ban on entry to Belarus people's deputy of Ukraine, deputy head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, member of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Igor Guz.

The fact that Igor Guz was denied entry after the request the relevant authorities of the Russian Federation, points to the lack of independence of Belarus in foreign policy. Our country is losing its subjectivity in the international arena right in front of our eyes. Such a policy of the Belarusian leadership has a negative impact on the country's image.

It is known, that Russia, especially in recent years, has extremely aggressive foreign policy. The scope of the countries, with which our neighbor has spoiled relations for many years, is growing rapidly. Belarus needs maximum retreating from the joint foreign policy with the Kremlin.

We are convinced that the agreement on the joint Russian - Belarusian black list of persons banned from entering the country for political reasons should be torn up on the part of our country.
