Activists Urge To Support Belarusians Arrested By FSB

On April 28 a session of the committee of solidarity with the Belarusian citizens arrested in Russia was held in the headquarters of the Belarusian Popular Front Party.

The meeting was held under a slogan “In the clutches of the FSB,” (the Russian Federal Security Service), by analogy with Frantsishak Aliakhnovich’s book “In the clutches of the GPU.”

The members of the organizing committee have agreed to get in touch with army human rights activists, in order to connect with the political prisoners. They also want to urge NGOs and human rights organisations to support the Belarusian political prisoners in Russian prisons. The members of the organizing committee have also collected money in support of the prisoners, Radio Svaboda informs.

Last year a citizen of Belarus Kiryl Silivonchyk was convicted in Russia. He was sentenced to 2 years in a penal colony-settlement on charges relating “Public justifying of terrorism or public calls for it.” The grounds for the verdict, as it could be supposed, had been his post or repost on his VKontakte social network account, which contained anti-Russian calls.

Eduard Palchys, a 25-year-old Belarusian blogger, a creator of the historical website 1863x.com, known as Jhon Silver, was arrested in Russia. He is charged under Article 130 Part 1 ( incitement of racial, ethnic or religious hatred or hostility) and Article 343 Part 2 (distribution of pornographic materials) of the Criminal Code.

Representatives of the civil society of Belarus have already created an organizing committee “Freedom to Eduard Palchys.”
