Photo Fact: Svetlana Alexievich’s Book Sold For $1750

The book War's Unwomanly Face, translated into English, has been displayed for sale at a popular American portal Amazon.com.

The seller asks USD 1750 for the book, the Belarusian News writes.

It looks like the seller set such a high price for the book because this is the first English-language book of the literature Nobel Prize winner.

The book War's Unwomanly Face was first published in 1988 in the USSR by the publishing company “Mastackaia Litaratura”, the translation has been performed by the American company Progress Publishers. The seller claims the book is in great condition, practically unread.

It is worth mentioning that there are other books by Svetlana Alexievich at Amazon, but the prices remain much more democratic. Thus, Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster is USD 18,05, Zinky Boys: Soviet Voices from the Afghanistan War — USD 13,35, Secondhand Time: The Last of the SovietsMa — USD 17,85. Limp editions, electronic or audio books will be even cheaper.
