“Belarusian Statistics Committee Seems To Live In Some Other Country”. Belarusian People Reveal Their Real Wages

The results of the poll conducted by charter97.org considerably diverged from the official statistics.

On May 24, the Belarusian Statistics Committee reported on the average wage of workers for April. According to the Committee’s data, it amounted to Br 7 065 990. The website charter97.org asked its subscribers what was the wage they actually got this month. The figures sounded by the Belarusian Statistics Committee seemed to have been taken from “some other reality”, to the majority of respondents.

114 people revealed their actual wages. 80% do not make it to the official average salary throughout the country. Besides, an absolute majority of respondents get Br 3-4 million salaries.

The responds at charter97.org claim that the wages are often delayed or paid with production instead of real money. About 20% of respondents confessed they had two jobs to secure their families more or less decent life. Some wrote they had no job at all – someone got fired two years before the pension, someone had to close down their entrepreneur activity.
