German Expert: Stationing Of Russian Troops In Belarus Might Lead To “Accidental” War
WOLFGANG ZENDER

Wolfgang Zender believes that Belarus should not side up in the confrontation of the West and Russia.

”Belarus will sooner or later may face a situation when it has to choose. And the essence of multi-vector policy is just not to side up with anybody. Therefore, for the benefit of Belarus, the West and Russia should keep Belarus away from the confrontation. Therefore it is necessary to maintain the status quo with an independent and sovereign Belarus,” – program director for Belarus of Konrad Adenauer Foundation Wolfgang Zender said in Minsk at a conference on security in the framework of the ”Minsk dialogue,” Radio Svaboda informs.

According to Zender, the stationing of Russian military contingent in Belarus will lead to a more intense reaction from NATO.

“This will not only increase the level of non-confidence, but also increase the threat of an accidental war. The stationing of Russian troops will pose a threat to security in the region. And not the direct threat from the forces will be of concern here (it’s enough to remember Kaliningrad), it will be of great symbolic importance,” – he stressed.
