Liavon Volski Won Freemuse Award

The musician devoted the award to his wife Hanna.

On May 8 Belarusian rock musician Liavon Volski received in Stockholm Eurovision Village Freemuse Music Award for outstanding work for the sake of “freedom of musical expression.”

“Belarus has the winner, but he is banned in the country, as well as the previous holder of Freemuse Award Remy Esam is banned his country,” – executive director of Freemuse Ole Reiten said from the stage about the willingness of Stockholm add to the Eurovision another aspect – the history of banned musicians , Radio Svaboda informs.

Volski expressed from the stage gratitude for attention “to his modest person, musical activities and struggle for democratic values” and personal thanks to Reiten because he went to Volski’s concerts throughout Europe:

“I want you to understand once again that Belarus has a serious problem with freedom of speech – Liavon Volski said, being translated by former Swedish Ambassador to Belarus Stefan Eriksson. – I dedicate this award to my wife Hanna, who has recently passed away. She used to be my producer, helped me in various projects in the most difficult times. Thank you all!“

Together with the owner of the last year award Egyptian Esam Remy Volski played on the stage the song “Stranger” from the solo album “Social Science,” 2014.

Liavon Volski is a Belarusian rock musician. He gained popularity as a leader of Mroya, which in 1994 was transformed into N.R.M., for 13 years he has released 8 albums. Joint projects involving Volski – “Folk Album” and “I Was Born Here” – have become iconic in Belarus.

Besides N.R.M. Liavon Volski used to sing and play in Krambambulia and Zet. He is the author of several books of poetry.

After leaving N.R.M. Liavon Volski recorded three solo albums: “Verses And Choruses,” “White Apple Tree Of Thunder” and “Social Science.” Currently a crowd funding company is underway to record the fourth solo album of the musician “Social Science -2.”
