Leanid Zaika: Banks Enjoy Giving Credits To The Likes Of Lukashenka To Take Away Their Property Later On
Leanid Zaika

What is the secret of the unusual politeness performed by Aliaksandr Lukashenka during communication with the World Bank representative?

On Thursday, Lukashenka held negotiations with Vice-President of the World Bank Cyril Muller.

— I would like you to name all our shortcomings, and we will surely correct the situation, — he said in a conversation with the banker.

Apart from this, Aliaksandr Lukashenka thanked the World Bank representative for cooperation and even confessed this experience had become a “certain schooling” for him.

It turned out that the reason for such warm welcoming of the international guest was quite prosaic.

— You know what Lukashenka’s problem is? — economist Leanid Zaika has explained to the journalists of “Solidarity”. — He is supposed to pay the debts for two billion dollars by the end of the year. Where can he take such sum? He can, for instance, raise rental payments, make old ladies and gentlemen work or introduce paid medicinal services. But this is not enough, and the World Bank enjoys giving money to such bad economists, as it can confiscate their property later on. So, they are discussing the terms.

Alongside with that, in the economist’s opinion, “no one demands anything” from Belarus, as the World Bank remains a commercial organization.

— This is not charity – they earn money, — the expert says. — They take from the Swedes under 0,5% and give to the Belarusians under 5%. Therefore, the first thing they check is whether Belarus can pay or not. So far, it can, as Belarus has property for 130 billion dollars, it can sell “Belkaliy” or something else in case of necessity. They see that the “aborigines” still have something in their disposal, so they give credits.

Herewith, Leanid Zaika underlines, they are trying to do at least something to make the Belarusian economy effective:

— These are not terms, but rather the so-called framework deals. They suggest reducing budget expenses — to change the situation, when, for example, military men and deputies get USD 1 thousand per month as a pension. However, the nomenclature cannot accept this, so they continue pulling the money out the people.
