Nyaklyaeu: Not Parliamentary Elections But Parliamentary Appointments In Belarus
Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu

Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu addressed the delegates of the All-Belarusian Assembly and urged to propose the adjournment of the "parliamentary elections".

“In 2010, more than 20 000 citizens of the Republic of Belarus signed up for appointing me a delegate of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly. None of the other delegates had such a representation, but none the less they didn’t register me as a delegate. Delegates of the "national assembly" became not the ones elected by the people, but the ones appointed by the authorities,” – Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu wrote on his Facebook page.

“Don’t hide that people decide nothing in our country. Everything is decided for them. And if there is something in our county that needs to be changed, then it’s this. We need to return to the people the right to choose, otherwise we won’t be able to get out of neither the political nor the economic deadlock,” – Nyaklyaeu continues.

According to him, the right of choice should be provided immediately: at the nearest "parliamentary elections".

“And then you, the delegates of the "all-Belarusian assembly" can tell your weighty word, when someone of you will offer to put the issue of the "parliamentary election" on the agenda.

“Parliamentary elections”, scheduled for September 11, should be postponed. They shouldn’t be held the way the authorities plan it. Because they plan not the parliamentary elections, but the parliamentary appointments. As it was during the previous “elections” and as it was last year, when they appointed totally dependent on the authorities people, who didn’t decide anything , to the parliament.

Today is the time to decide. The situation is such. Political and economical. The country is at the edge of losing its independence. We should realized it and find the way out ,” – the politician writes.

According to him, a competent parliament is a step towards this way out. Deputy corps that can take responsibility for the future of Belarus.

“I do not mean that the democratic opposition should have an opportunity to get into parliament. Of course, it should. But above all, the conditions should be created in the country that will attract to the parliament, meaning to the politics, intelligent, experienced, responsible people, who are staying away from the politics today. Not because they don’t want to deal with it, and not even because they are afraid that, say, the will lose job, their property and will be taken to jail. Many would put their job, and property, and even freedom at risk. But they understand: there is no sense in it. They won’t be in the “parliament”. Other people will be appointed. Those who will push the button they are said to push, and who will lift their hands when they are said to lift,” – Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu noted.

He told what he would have done if he were a delegate of the “all-Belarusian assembly” himself.

“I would have used this to propose the adjournment of the "parliamentary elections", because the country is not ready for them, to convene an extraordinary session of the "chamber of representatives of the National Assembly" and to amend the legislation in a way that would guarantee that the elections are free and fair. This would be a real step towards real, not toy, Parliament, and to the vital political and economic reforms. This is the way to preserve Belarus, its statehood and independence. This is a historic chance and iа I were in your place, I wouldn’t miss it, “– the politician summed up.
