Belsat Journalists Detained Near Minsk And In Homel Region

At Zhdanovichy market in Minsk journalists were released after a document examination, while an employee of the TV channel detained in Loyeu still stays at the police department.

There was an attempt to detain Anatol Shumchanka, chairman of the republican public association Perspektyva, and Belsat journalists at Zhdanovichy market.

The car of the sole trader was blocked at the exit road from Liabiazhy market at the order of the deputy director of the marketplace Valery Zaitsau.

The reasons for detention have not been revealed, Belsat reports.

“What right do you have to detain us?” – the journalist asked.

“I do not know, I just obey the order,” – the guard answered.

Later policemen arrived to the scene. The administration of the market demanded Anatol Shumchanka to be taken to the police department together with journalists and searched. However after Shumchanka’s passport details were copied, everyone was released.

Sole traders think the detention is related to checks and seizures which have taking place at the market for a period of a week. Belsat journalists arrived to the market to clear up the situation.

Another Belsat journalist has been brutally detained in Loyeu, Homel region today.

The filming crew was working at footage about the economic situation in Belarusian regions. The process of shooting was interrupted by policemen, who came and brutally detained a Belsat journalist, who was working with Kanstantsin Zhukouski. There are suspicions that video equipment was damaged during detention.

The journalist stays with policemen, Belsat reports.
