It Required More Than 10 "Men In Sportswear" To Detain Tamara Siarhei
TAMARA SIARHEI

Public activist Tamara Siarhei was detained in Minsk – 10 men in sportswear were waiting for her near her house.

As the human rights activist Tamara Siarhei said to Radio Svaboda, more than ten strong men in sportswear were detaining her, a car with barred windows was parked nearby.

Tamara Siarhei was heading towards Svabody Square in Minsk to take part in a picketing held by a group of pensioners – activists of the civil initiative “Against Lawlessness in Prosecutor’s Office and Courts”.

Police officers dressed in civilian clothes stopped Tamara Siarhei near her house and informed her that she was allegedly detained for an investigation on an appeal against actions of the chief of the Central Police Department, which she addressed to the head of Minsk police office Aliaksandr Barsukou a month ago.

Tamara calls the actions of the security officers illegal because they limit her freedom of movement. Besides, Aliaksandr Barsukou should have investigated the complaint against the actions of his subordinate and should have given a response to it much earlier.

According to her, she was detained because of the planned picketing on the Svaboda Square. Several activists of the civil initiative “Against Lawlessness in Prosecutor’s Office and Courts” should have taken part in it in order to remind the authorities that apart from the "delegates of the "All-Belarusian Assembly", caressed by the government, there are thousands of people, whose problems the authorities solve by intimidation, fines and arrests".
