Quasi unemployment appears to be the most acute problem at the enterprises in Brest region now.
Legal Inspector of the Radio-Electronic Industry Trade Union in Brest region Uladzimir Malei has told praca-by.info what worries the workers of the region the most today. He has outlined the situation at the enterprises of Brest region as a very complicated one:
– Quasi unemployment appears to be the most acute problem at the enterprises. This means, reduction of working hours. When you check the statistical data you see that the number of workers remains approximately the same, but the wages don’t grow, or even fall, – the Legal Inspector has noted.
– Unfortunately, we lack the working movement which could have become the propulsion force of changes for the better in this country. The Decree #29 and the contract system made the workers think in one direction: if I step out they won’t renew my contract. People should feed families, pay credits. Today, an employer can change the basic labour conditions in short term. We often receive calls from the workers who say that their working hours are reduced twice, and they receive notifications informing they would be fired if they don’t agree with that. It makes me sad that most people come to our trade union when they had already been fired. However, there are positive examples. Tower crane machinist Aliaksandr Sakharuk made up his mind to come to us with no fear several years ago and managed to keep his job with our help, – Malei has told.
