Alternative Service Term To Exceed Military One Two Times

People without higher education will do alternative service for 3 years.

The Council of Ministers approved the regulation on the alternative service procedure, as well as the procedure of payments on compulsory state insurance of citizens doing alternative service, BelaPAN reports.

Alternative service terms exceed the terms of military service twice: for people without higher education – 36 months, for those with higher education – 24 months. The days, when a citizen is on leave for entering an educational institution, are not included in the period of alternative service. The days in custody, as well as the days when the service is missed without a valid reason, are not included, too.

Alternative service can be done in health institutions, social services, housing, agriculture and forestry, as well as organizations engaged in landscaping, construction and repair of roads and railway lines. The list of jobs includes 84 entries.

The law on alternative service comes into force on 1 July. It regulates the relations connected with the alternative service instead of the military one.
