The "house of representatives" election campaign is not in the spotlight of the public.

This is stated in the weekly report on the results of observations of July 18-24, which has been carried out within the “Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections” campaign, initiated by the PDSA Belarusian Helsinki Committee and the human rights center Viasna, closed by the authorities, BelaPAN reports.

“The election campaign remains invisible to the Belarusian society. The state media publish CEC materials and articles about the potential pro-government candidates,” – the report's authors state.

Human rights activists point out that the initiative groups of candidates have collected signatures by holding street pickets and visiting voters in their homes without any significant obstacles.

“When collecting signatures, administrative resources were used again, but not as extensively as in the previous campaign,” – the report says and it cites some cases, when administrative resources were used at a number of enterprises.

At the same time human rights activists note citizens’ weak interest in the election campaign.

We remind that the “parliamentary elections” will be held in Belarus on 11 September.

Over the years of Lukashenka's rule, no election campaign in Belarus have been declared free and fair by the international community.

Earlier, the opposition leaders claimed they were intending to ignore the electoral farce.
