Lithuania should be ready to evacuate residents of Vilnius in case of new incidents at the Belarusian NPP.

Lithuania must pay the greatest attention to the development of measures for evacuation of civilian population in case of any abnormal situations at the Belarusian NPP, which is being constructed not far from Vilnius, the Lithuanian Parliament Speaker Loreta Grauziniene said.

“We should discuss not only supply or non-supply of electricity, acceptance or rejection, but we need to talk about our population, in the first place - the security of citizens of Vilnius. Civil means of how to ensure the safety should be developed: plans, and the measures, and all the rest. We are absolutely not prepared today. I can’t even imagine – if it required to evacuate Vilnius today, how could it be done,” – the Lithuanian Parliament Speaker Grauziniene said in the program “Pozicija” (Position) of Ziniu radijas on Wednesday, delfi.lt reports.

She noted that both Lithuania and the European Union have virtually no levers of pressure that can stop the construction of the Astravets nuclear power plant, and the issue of construction of the nuclear power plant is solved with a delay.

Let us remind that there was another incident at the construction of the Belarusian NPP in mid-July, which related to the reactor unit.
