Ihar Ptsichkin’s Mother: Paramedic Covering Up Murderers’ Tracks

The court trial over the case of death of Minsk resident Ihar Ptsichkin in the remand prison in Valadarski Street in 2013 has been resumed in the Maskouski district court of Minsk.

On September 20, the court questioned the remand prison guards as witnesses at the trial against paramedic Aliaksandr Krylou, who is accused of failure to render medical aid which led to the convict’s death, the Belarusian Partisan writes.

Zhanna Ptsichkina, the mother of the dead convict of the remand prison №1 Ihar Ptsichkin, witnessed in court the day before.

According to the mother, her son wasn’t “perfect”, but he “wasn’t the alcoholic and drug addict, which the remand prison staff want to make him look, either”. Ihar Ptsichkin worked at the Minsk Tractor Plant since he was 16, earned money, also to pay fines for driving a car without a license.

“My son used to drink alcoholic beverages with other youngsters near the entrance to the house, it happened at weekends sometimes, but not very often. Six months before he got to the remand prison he stopped drinking, he was going to give it up totally. If he used alcohol, he never turned aggressive, just came home and went to bed,” – the mother said.

Zhanna Ptsichkina refuted that her son allegedly was a drug addict, and that he smoked dope – she never saw any signs of that. On July 30, 2013 Zhanna Ptsichkina delivered her son to the remand prison in Valadarski Street herself – to serve punishment, as the court had sentenced Ihar Ptsichkin to 3 months of arrest for repeated drunk driving.

“It was hot, up to 30 degrees, and my son tolerated heat badly. However, he took many things with him, which surprised me. I told him to hurry up. If I had known they would kill him there, I would have never given him away, I would cover up his tracks for as long as I could,” – Zhanna Ptsichkina said.

The woman was told her son had died on August 4. She was at a church service, when a man called her at 11.50 and told with a very calm voice that her son had died of the cardiac failure.

“My daughter was in the morgue already at 13:30 and saw Ihar after the autopsy. Why were they in such a hurry?” - Zhanna Ptsichkina was outraged. At 6 p.m. she saw him herself and didn’t recognize, she claims:

“First, he was blue from neck to waist. And his face was the one of a 40-year-old man, bearing the expression of a tortured person, the expression of crucifixion. My husband died in my arms, and he had an ordinary face of a dead man, and Ihar’s face looked like he had been tortured for a long time. Also, his head was bent back, and the legs were stretched out, very long legs. Blue circles around the wrists. The people told me later on that they had probably kept him in the position called “swallow”, and he died like that. Also, there were bruises on his face and chest – they probably beat him,” – Zhanna Ptsichkina believes.

According to the mother of the deceased, 3 days after the funeral the morgue returned Ihar Ptsichkin’s belongings – a sweatshirt, pants and a T-shirt, which were “soaked with urine, it was dripping”.

As for the guilt of paramedic Krylou, Ptsichkin’s mother thinks he is guilty of covering up for the people who beat her son.

“Probably, he hasn’t seen him alive, but he is still guilty and should be severely punished,” – Zhanna Ptsichkina says.

Under the current charges, Aliaksand Krylou is facing up to 5 years of imprisonment.

On September 19, Hanna Shparyk, the ex-girlfriend of Ihar Ptsichkin, gave evidence in court. According to her, Ihar smoked dope from time to time, but she didn’t know about “spice” or other drugs. “Still, he wasn’t addicted to drugs,” – the witness said.

According to his ex-girlfriend , Ihar Ptsichkin used alcohol just like all the other guys do. “He was a good guy, earned money, brought it home. We had a few rows anyway,” – Hanna Shparyk said to the court. The witness said she had once talked to his mother about him smoking dope.

Zhanna Ptsichkina said she didn’t recall such conversation.
