Zmitser Dashkevich: 2017 To Be Year Of Street Rallies For White-Red-White Flag

The struggle for returning of the national symbols will continue in a new format.

Zmitser Dashkevich, the leader of the Young Front movement, announced that he and his companions-in-arms were preparing a number of issue-related street actions.

First, this year marks 500 years of the Bible in Belarusian Language printed by Francysk Skaryna, secondly, actions for returning of the white-red-white flag will continue.

Activists have collected and submitted to the Ministry of Culture 10 500 signatures for giving it the status of historical value.

"we will dedicate numerous street actions to the white-red-white flag. Supporters of the idea of our organization are preparing a scientific justification of the white-red-white flag based on the information from the archives. And I think that it will be presented soon. We will hold actions related to this issue as well. I would prefer not to announce any specific dates yet. We will do it as we used to do it in 2016: once we think of an idea, we perform it. We will be glad if this example is adopted by other activists of social and political movements," – Dashkevich said to Radio Racyja.

In the first half of the 90th years the white-red-white flag was a state symbol, Zmitser Dashkevich recalls. Moreover, the use of the national flag is not prohibited by the legislation even now. Although, as practice shows, activists are often detained for the flag.
