President of the National Television Association of Russia Eduard Sagalaev addressed yesterday Alexander Lukashenko "in connection with the violation of NTV broadcasting rights by the Belarusian national state TV channel BT", reports "Interfax".

Flourishing corruption in the army

Belarusian military procuracy is alarmed by the escalating corruption among the officers. RIA "Novosti" quotes Belarus military prosecutor Vyacheslav Lubovitsky saying: "Inspections in the Belarusian troops revealed a significant growth in the number of crimes, associated with power abuse, financial embezzlement, bribery and theft."

National Bank liquidates "BelBaltiya"

The board of the National Bank of Belarus passed February 7 its final decision to liquidate "BelBaltiya Bank ltd.". They set up a special liquidation committee to carry out the ruling. Experience proves that it may take them anything from 1 to up to five years to shut down the bank. October 12, 1999 the bank was deprived of its license to draw population`s deposits. This happened after the overall value of deposits exceeded bank`s personal property by over 10 times. In case of bankruptcy the bank would have found itself unable to clear off its indebtedness before the depositors.

Belarusian cranes go to Cuba. Next to follow are Libya and Syria

The first consignment of Belarus-made 15-ton cranes were shipped to Cuba by the "Mogilevtransmash" manufacture. That`s become their first trade deal with the remote overseas country. The sides hope that their future cooperation will be fruitful.

Prominent Belarusian poet Masei Sednev died in USA

An outstanding Belarusian poet died in the age of 88 on February 5 in the town of Glenkow, not far from New-York. BelaPAN reports that the destiny of the poet is similar to many other Belarusian writers - he was persecuted by the authorities during his young years and couldn`t even graduate from the Minsk Institute of Pedagogy.
