New Minister promises growth of electricity tariffs 11:08, 27/02/2001
New Minister for communications of Belarus Vladimir Goncharenko stressed the need to increase the tariffs on electricity by 30%. He said this on February 26 during his Ministry`s presentation, led by Premier Vladimir Ermoshin.
"The industry must resolve economic issues, - said the Minister: Last year the Ministry`s indebtedness for labor and services, the so-called creditor`s debt, amounted to 6,3 billion BLR. To pay this off we`ll be looking for alternative methods of earning money but there`s no way we will avoid the increase in electricity tariffs. If we want our industry to survive, then by March 10 at the latest electricity tariffs must be raised by at least 30%."
Interestingly enough, Vladimir Goncharenko has already chaired the Ministry over the period from October 1994 till December 1999, after which he worked as chief of president`s administration.
