Люди держат в руках портреты пропавших без вести известных оппонентов Лукашенко: Дмитрия Завадского, Анатолия Красовского, Виктора Гончара, Юрия Захаренко. основная часть людей стоит напротив здания КГБ Беларуси. В акции участвуют жены политзаключенного Андрея Климова и бизнесмена Анатолия Красовского.

Зубры провели акцию по очистке стен столицы от циничных надписей. Напомним, что двумя месяцами ранее на заборе Минского завода холодильников "Атлант" на проспекте Машерова посредством граффити зубры задали вопрос о судьбах пропавших людей Александру Лукашенко. Затем эта стена была закрашена, но надписи проступили. Тогда скрыть от глаз народа "неудобные" вопросы взялись "патриоты" из БПСМ, намалевавшие поверх надписей режущую глаз картинку с красно-зеленым флагом.

Председатель стачкома предпринимателей Валерий Левоневский, заявивший о своих претензиях на пост президента Беларуси, показал свою несостоятельность. Не смотря на его заверения организовать сегодня политическую забастовку индивидуальных предпринимателей вещевых рынков Минска, акция протеста не состоялась. Крупнейший рынок столицы "Динамо", а также районные рынки Минска работали сегодня в обычном режиме.

Председатель комиссии по международным делам и национальной безопасности "совета республики" Николай Чергинец не считает исчерпывающим белорусско-латвийский дипломатический инцидент, вызванный высказываниями министром обороны этой страны. Об этом "парламентарий" заявил 17 мая во время специально организованного им короткого брифинга. "Латвия готовится к вступлению в НАТО, и мимо воли поднимается вопрос, с чьего голоса говорит господин министр обороны, - отметил Чергинец. - Но хочется верить, что не с голоса натовских государств и руководства НАТО".

Основной темой открывшегося сегодня в Баку заседания Совета министров обороны стран-участниц СНГ стало военное и военно-техническое сотрудничество. Об этом сообщил, открывая форум, новый председатель Совета, министр обороны России Сергей Иванов. Как передает корреспондент РИА "Новости", по словам Иванова, на заседании будут также подведены итоги командно-штабных учений "Щит Содружества-2001", которые проходили в Казахстане и охватили территорию стран Центральной Азии и Российской Федерации. В заседании Совета министров обороны стран-участниц СНГ принимают участие руководители военных ведомств 11 государств, Туркмения не представлена.

Minsk police detained in the morning around 30 participants of an unsanctioned demonstration opposite the Republic`s Palace, where the second All-National Assembly sits. The protesters all happened to be members of the Conservative Christian Party of the Belarusian Popular Front. They attempted to unfurl the poster "Let`s protect Belarus!" but were in no time dispersed and captured. Police officials report that they arrested in total 8 action participants.

The action "Live Chain of People Who Care" will be held today in Minsk as part of the "Wanna Know Truth!" motion. The rally will be held at 6-7p.m. under the motto "Stand beside!" Those, who aren`t indifferent to the destiny of Lukashenko`s missing opponents, will make up a live chain, holding in their hands portraits of the vanished politicians. Thus, the people intend to stand along the Skarina prospect from the Independence to the Oktyabrskaya squares of Minsk.

Political strike of individual entrepreneurs at the commodity markets of Minsk has been scheduled for today. The protesters will demand the president`s and his Cabinet`s resignation. The action is dedicated to the second All-Belarusian Assembly, held these days in the capital. Expectedly, around 30 thousand sellers will turn up at the protest.

Trade union of car-building industry appealed against the ruling of the Moskovsky court of Minsk concerning the prohibition to stay too close to the Ministry of Industry. Trade unionists determined to picket the building in order to attract public attention to the payment delays and indebtedness in industry. The Minsk city hall, however, allowed the people to assemble not closer than 3 kilometers away from the place.

"Solidarnost" reports that yesterday the chairwoman of the "Belshina" trade union Elena Zakhozhaya was taken to hospital. The trade union leader went on a hunger-strike, condemning the company administration`s unwillingness to provide the trade union with the legal address, needed to pass registration with the local authorities. According to preliminary information, the city hall of Bobruisk promised to fulfill her claim in case the "Belshina" directors refuse to do it. At the moment the lady is placed under constant medical control and gets the necessary nourishment after her hunger-strike effort.

Armenia and Belarus will sign an inter-governmental agreement on military and technical cooperation, CAN reports with a reference to the Armenian Defense Minister Serge Sarkisyan. The treaty will be possibly signed in course of Lukashenko`s official visit to Erevan late in May.

The 3^rd UN Conference on the least developed states is attended by the Belarusian delegation, headed by deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Sychov. Belarusian delegates held a series of meetings with the president Kiribati, heads of the foreign relations bodies of Cyprus, Mozambique and Burundi. The sides negotiated on bilateral relations progress within UN framework. On May 16 head of the Belarusian delegation Sychov was given floor at the conference and expressed solidarity with the worst developed countries of the globe, calling on specialized institutions, foundations, UN programs and financial organizations to pay greater attention to the problem of poor countries.

Brest authorities invented a unique method of filling the regional budget. This time the victims were teachers. For instance, in the Kobrin district they attempted to involuntarily distribute among the teaching personnel 460 "Beretsye-2" lottery tickets. The thing was initiated by the Brest region council. The money paid out as wages was deliberately reduced by 690, which provoked a round of indignation amidst professors. Similar mechanism was adopted in the Pruzhansky district. No matter which the new payment method is, it`s not going to solve the problem, reports www.praca.by.
