Prosecutor General Bound to Promulgate Findings of Kuropaty Investigation 11:18, 12/11/2001
Public association “The Comradeship of the Belarusian Language” pleads with the Belarusian prosecutor general Viktor Sheiman to announce the findings of the investigation, carried out in Kuropaty in the years 1997-1999. In a letter, forwarded to Sheiman, CBL chair Oleg Trusov marks that due to the widening of the Minsk ring road the public’s interest to the real place of burial of Stalinist repressions has greatly aroused.
The results of the search, held in 1988-1989 by the Belarusian Soviet procuracy under the guidance of Georgy Tarnavsky, were made known to the public. The outcomes of the analogous research, launched in 1995 by the senior investigator of the procuracy Valery Komarovsky, were also published in domestic press. In 1997-1999 the senior assistant of the military prosecutor Viktor Somov held another investigation in Kuropaty, but the official results never saw light.
On the basis of art.34 of the Constitution and the law “On the procuracy of the Republic of Belarus” the author of the petition asks the prosecutor general to reveal through mass media the last investigation’s findings.
