5 Days Arrest to Human Rights Defender for Human Rights Slogans 11:30, 22/04/2002
Dmitry Borodko, “Vesna” human rights defender, was sentenced by the Central court of Minsk to 5 days of arrest. The human rights defender was held in custody since the moment of his detention on April 19. Dmitry Borodko was found guilty of violating art.167/1 of the Administrative code (unsanctioned rallying). Police released famous filmmaker and one of the PM organizers Yuri Khaschevatsky who petitioned the jury with a plea to be assigned a lawyer. The man will be tried at 4p.m. today. Lubov Kuchinskaya, Maksim Shiraev, Sergei Peskin were all handed in court subpoenas for tomorrow after which police sought to return them to the Okrestina jail. However, owing to the human rights defenders efforts, all three were set free.
