Colin Powell Pleads with Russia to Help Resolve Belarus-OSCE Conflict

US Secretary of State Colin Powell addressed Russia with a plea to use her influence in order to help solve the problems, which arise in the relations between Belarus and OSCE. Powell made his statement during the Wednesday press-conference following his meeting with the Foreign Minister of Russia Igor Ivanov.

Powell addressed over the matter the Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov in the Canadian city of Vancouver, where they hold meetings of the Foreign Ministers of the G7 group and Russia. Powell pointed out the alarming situation in Bearus, fro where they banished OSCE officials. He said that the OSCE stated its intentions not to shut down their Minsk mission. He added that the USA and CoE demand the formation of a special commission to investigate into the disappearances.

“Ivanov, – Reuters quotes the anonymous official as saying: /I>said that Russia always stressed that Belarus needs cooperation with the international community and that he would monitor the situation development there himself.”
