BFP Activist Sentenced to 7 Days of Jail 12:14, 12/11/2002

One of the activists of the Belarusian Freedom Party Dmitry Kavko was sentenced by the Sovietsky district court of Minsk to a 7-day administrative arrest. He was detained overnight on November 6-7 near the Kuropaty memorial site in the vicinity of the Minsk beltway, where he, along with a few other BFP activists, tried to spray-paint the noise barrier with the graffiti: “Lukashenko, honor the Kuropaty!” and similar ones. 
Investigation Into On-Line “Pagonya” Resumed 12:12, 12/11/2002

Lenisky district station of Grodno resumed investigation into the dissemination in the Internet of the on-line newspaper “Pagonya”. “Procuracy pointed to us a range of circumstances, which we missed during the investigation,” – BelaPAN was told by the head of the Leninsky district center Vladimir Sychevsky: “We again received this case for additional investigation”. 
Police Searches “AlVit’s” Office, Arrests Director 12:12, 12/11/2002

On November 11, at around 13p.m. the office of the advertisement company “AlVit”, headquartered in the Chkalova str. of Minsk, was broken in by the law-enforcers. They detained the director general of “AlVit” Vitaly Shahlevich and cordoned off the entrance into the firm’s office. In a four hours time they started the search and interrogated twenty remaining employees. 
Belarus Proclaims Herself Iraqi’s Most Reliable Partner 12:08, 12/11/2002

Vice-Premier of the Belarusian government Vladimir Drazhin said that Belarus is Iraqi’s most trustworthy partner in all the directions of joint activities. RIA “Novosti” reports that Drazhin made this statement, when welcoming the Minister of healthcare of Iraq Dr.Umaid Mubarak, who finished his five-day visit to Minsk.

On November 6 the bailiffs confiscated the property of the independent newspaper “Nasha Svaboda”, shut by the authorities earlier in the year. 
Nemtsov Complains to Belarusian Government Over KGB 12:07, 12/11/2002

The leader of the Union of right-wing forces and its parliamentary faction Boris Nemtsov forwarded to the Cabinet of Ministers of Belarus a complaint over the arbitrary actions of the Belarusian KGB, as a result of which he was deported on October 23 from Minsk to Russia as a persona-non-grata. 
Viktor Rakhmanko to Stand Trial on Nov.14 12:06, 12/11/2002

Court hearings on the case of the former head of the Belarusian railroad Viktor Rakhmanko will open on November 14 in the country’s Supreme court. BELTA was told in the court’s press-service, that Viktor Rakhmanko is charged with committing 15 crimes. The former director of the Belarusian railroad is accused, among other things, of bribery.
