Russian Duma to Hold Hearings, PACE to Decide
12:11, 12/11/2002

Today the Russian parliament will hold hearings concerning the disappearance of famous Belarusian politicians. Last week the problem of the Belarusian-Russian relations turned one of the key themes in both Russian and our own media. Official Minsk’s conflict with Kremlin will likely be followed. November 12 the Russian State Duma will hold parliamentary hearings, dedicated to the Belarus-Russia’s merger. Taking into account the fact that the event will take place during the apex of gas dispute, the official Minsk may consider the deliberations to be a humiliation to it. Moreover, the hearings won’t be conducted in a usual official format. Their initiators are deputies of the right-wing parties of the Russian parliament, in particular, the SPS faction. Belarus will be represented by opposition members: UCP leader A. Lebedko, his deputy Y. Romanchuk and also V. Polevikova and V. Karbalevich.
