Skinheads Assault Female ZUBR Activist

Activist of ZUBR movement Alesia Yasuik was beaten on Saturday on December 14 on train en route Minsk-Orsha. She was passing around special issues of the newspaper “Borisov News”. Alesia said she was insulted and than attacked by the guys dressed in black uniforms with swastika. They kicked her in the face a few times and threw the newspapers out of the window. Alesia Yasiuk tried to defend herself but to no avail. Finally, a man came and rescued her. After that the fascists fled away.

Corruption “Fighters” Arrested

“Narodnaya Volya” reports that the KGB department for the Vitebsk region and regional procuracy apprehended on charges of power abuse and on the suspicions of bribery head and deputy head of the Polotsk inter-district department for combating organized criminality and corruption.

Vatslav Stankevich: Human Rights Situation in Belarus Deteriorates

On December 16 deputy of the Lithuanian Sojm, rapporteur for Belarus of the PACE Committee for legal affairs Vatslav Stankevich delivered his report on the situation with human rights in Belarus. “Regrettably, the human rights situation in Belarus keeps deteriorating,” – Stankevich told BelaPAN correspondent on the phone: “I reminded the Committee about the concrete cases of human rights violations, unjustified pressure, exerted on mass media – condemnation of journalists Markevich, Mozheiko and Ivashkevich. I also reiterated that literally a few days before they shut down for no clear reason the newspaper “Mestnoye Vremya”. I also tried to explain that ahead of the local elections in Belarus the regime pressures harshly the independent media”.

BPF Nominates 200 at Local Elections

The list of 200 candidates from the BPF party to the forthcoming elections was approved at the December 14 party’s meeting (Sojm) in Minsk.

Nemtsov Sues Lukashenko’s Regime

This week will possibly see another escalation of the recent conflict around the deportation from Belarus of the Russian SPS leader Boris Nemtsov. The lawyers intend to file lawsuit in the Minsk court against Belarusian KGB and Council of Ministers. The process promises to turn very loud: never before had the politicians of the two states sued each other.

On Monday the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Rabochy” Viktor Ivashkevich headed to the Baranovichi special confinement center, where he will stay for the next two years. He was sentenced for alleged libeling and defaming the president.
