Sanctioned regime
17:12, 25/07/2003, Sergey Krivoshein, BDG/ Mestnaja gazeta

Last week the Chamber of representatives of the U.S. congress adopted the text of the Law on international relations for 2004-2005 fiscal years. One of its chapters is totally devoted to measures of defending Belarusian democracy. Although, the law will be discussed in the upper chamber not without certain difficulties, we can say for sure that the severe American sanctions will overtake the Belarusian government this autumn. Lets remind that American congressman Smith proposed to adopt Belarus Democracy Act according to which the allocation of financial aid for supporting democracy in our country including the independent mass media was intended. However Belarus Democracy Act wasnt adopted as a separate document and later became part of the Law on international relations for the 2004-2005 fiscal years So, The United States openly spoke for the forces opposing Lukashenkos regime for the first time.

By the way, last week Belarusian president said that he is going to work at his post all the current term without changing anything.
