Russia Curtails Oil Supplies to Belarus 11:21, 09/09/2003, photo by IREX/Promedia
Over the last few days, according to anonymous sources, the raw oil supplies to the Belarusian refineries from the Western Siberia of Russia, have sharply reduced in volume. As reported by “Izvestia” correspondent, along with the direct warning of the Russian Prime Minister Kasyanov on the potential price-growth of gas fuel, pumped by “Gasprom” to Belarus, the curtailment of the oil import can well bring about the systematic fuel crisis in the next several months.
Under these conditions, say pundits, Minsk will find itself in a tough situation owing to the refusal of the Belarusian authorities to set up joint venture with “Gasprom” on the conditions, acceptable for both sides. Therefore, the Russian petroleum companies now make the situation, preceding Putin’s meeting with Lukashenko on September 15 in Sochi, all the more complex.
