“Gasprom” Makes Things Clear for Belarus
11:22, 15/09/2003

“Gasprom” made everything clear for Belarus once and for all, said the company’s press-secretary Sergei Kupriyanov, commenting to RIA “Novosti” on the Russian government’s cancellation of order, under which “Gasprom” used to sell gas to Minsk at Russia’s internal prices.

“Late last week “Gasprom” notified “Beltransgas” that it no longer intends to continue negotiations on the formation of joint venture,” – recalled Kupriyanov: “It is not just the matter of high or low cost of gas, but insurmountable misunderstanding of the very principles, on which the gas business is built”.

“We developed a totally different approaches as to how the evaluation of assets should be carried out, how the gas company must operate and develop. So, we assume that further cooperation and negotiations on setting up the joint venture are futile,” – said he.

“We used to sell gas to Belarus at low tariffs for over a year. Under the reached agreements by July 1 there were supposed to occur certain progress towards the formation of joint venture, but it never took place. This is our final response to Belarus,” – said Kupriyanov.
