Minsk Executive Committee Did Not Extend a Lease for Belarusian Language Society
16:10, 09/02/2004

Minsk executive committee proposes the headship of the national civil association “Frantsishak Skaryna Belarusian Language Society” to find another location for their office.

As it was reported before, in January 2004 the housing and communal services of the Partyzan district of Minsk warned the BLS that the rent agreement for the premises at the Rumyantsava Street, 13 expires on March 4 and it would not be extended because the housing and communal services need these rooms for placing its own services there. The BLS was offered to leave the place. In this situation the BLS asked citizens to support the organization, besides, they sent a letter to the chairman of the Minsk Executive Committee Mikhail Pawlaw with the appeal to extend the lease.

As the BelaPAN agency was informed by Aleh Trusaw, the BLS chairman, on February 5 the headquarters of the Society received the answer of the deputy chairman of the Minsk executive committee Mikalai Yarokhaw.

This letter in particular informs that the Minsk executive committee “considers it expedient” to place the head office of the BLS in another building, and advises in this connection to look through the list of free buildings belonging to city communal property, which is made by Minsk city center of real estate every month, and to judge the potential of these premises’ use independently”.
