On June 15 experts of the Office on Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR OSCE) met the representatives of the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus on Elections and Referenda (CEC).
As Nikalai Lazovik, the CEC secretary told to the BelaPAN, during the meeting the experts of the ODIHR OSCE Ian Mitchell and Holli Rautrauf “have not been asking new questions”. “The main aim of this mission is evaluation of the situation in the country. It is also to determine the format of the participation of the ODIHR in the observation of the parliamentary elections,” told the secretary of the CEC.
Besides, as told by him, in connection with the “events in the parliament” the experts were interested once more by the possibility to change the election code before the parliamentary elections. “Again we had confirmed our principled position that we think it is inexpedient to change the election code before the elections,” told N. Lazovik. However, he underlined, that if this decision would be adopted at the level of legislative authorities, the CEC certainly would revise the organization of the election process.
