Marked ballots found in garbage can in Borisov 12:04, 02/11/2004
More than 60 marked referendum ballots were found in a garbage can in Borisov, Viktor Gorbachev, a member of the United Civic Party (UCP) who was a parliamentary candidate in the city, told BelaPAN. All the 62 ballots were marked with a tick in the "No" box, Mr. Gorbachev said.
According to him, the ballots were found on Monday by a member of his electioneering group near the number 24 school, where the number 42 polling station was located during the October 12-17 national referendum and parliamentary elections.
Mr. Gorbachev said that the ballots might have been substituted by forged ones with the "Yes" box ticked.
He also said that he would appeal to the Borisov City Prosecutor`s Office. "We`ll see whether they will institute criminal proceedings in connection with the rigged results of the vote," he added.
