Three Polish Channels’ Rebroadcast Stopped In Brest
12:21, 02/12/2004

Cable television operators in Brest stopped rebroadcast of three Polish TV channels. It was made on the requirement of the Information Ministry of Belarus, which believes that to watch television of the neighboring country is possible only after receiving an authorization.

All Brest cable television operators have received a letter signed by deputy head of Information Ministry Syarhei Bulatsky. He wrote that operators had violated regulations on receiving systems of television and radio broadcasting, approved by Belarusian parliament. This violation is allegedly is connected with unsanctioned rebroadcast of two programs of the Polish TV and TV channel Polsat. According to mister Bulatsky, retransmission of the abovementioned channels was not submitted to the approval of the Information Ministry. If this requirement would be ignored, Ministry threatens to cancel licenses of the operators.

It is not excluded that the fate of Polish TV channels could be encountered by some Ukrainian and Russian channels, which are still broadcasted via cable television, Radio Svaboda informs.
