Sons Of Belarusian Political Prisoner Mikhail Marynich Visited Brussels
18:02, 13/01/2005

Sons of the Belarusian political prisoner Mikhail Marynich, who was recently sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment by the Belarusian court, have visited Brussels and met a number of high-ranking officials of the European Union and the NATO. “We are very glad that the situation in Belarus is attentively followed by the leadership of the united Europe, that they understand perfectly that the authorities are trying to intimidate the civil society and all dissenters on the example of our father, who is known to many of those whom we have met. They understand that the European choice of the majority of Belarus’ population frightens the regime, and the European values – freedom, democracy, and human rights – are destroyed in the country, where the last dictator is ruling. People in Europe understand that Lukashenka’s regime is panic-stricken by the recent events in Ukraine, as the non-violent revolution had inspired the Belarusians. And the main thing is that everybody understands that Belarus is a European country, and it should become a full-fledged and democratic member of the European community. Europe should help us in attaining this aim,” told Igor Marynich in the interview to the press center of the Charter’97, commenting on the results of the visit.
