Three District Administrations Occupied By Vendors
14:29, 10/02/2005

Today in the morning the market vendors brought to the district administrations of Vitsebsk petitions about going out of business in connection with introduction of the 18-percent VAT on goods imported from Russia. “We have three district administrations in the city. They were in fact blocked for several hours by the entrepreneurs. The officials were shocked. More than a thousand of entrepreneurs took part in the protest,” told the deputy of Vitsebsk city council Volha Karach to PAHONYA.

A reinforced police detail was called up.

“They were armed with machine guns. I asked one of them whether they would shoot at us. He said that he won’t shoot at us without an order,” told the deputy.

The protest in Vitsebsk took place as a pert of the national strike announced by the entrepreneurs in connection with introduction of 18-percent VAT on goods imported from Russia starting from January 1.
