Picket In Support of “Intex-press” Not Authorized 12:59, 28/12/2005
Baranavichy town executive committee has not authorized holding a picket in support of independent newspaper “Intex-prss” on December 29. The newspaper had been excluded for subscription catalogue for the year 2006.
As the Belarusian Association of Journalists informs, dwellers of Baranavichy Syarhei Housha, Viktar Syrytsa and Karnej Pyatrovich asked Baranavichy executive committee to hold a picket by the central communication centre. It has been planned that about 30 people would take part in the action. The executive committee of Baranavichy explained its refusal firstly by the fact that in line with the ruling of the town executive committee of 1998, pickets in the town can be held only in the old and new parks. Secondly, there was no written undertaking to keep public order during the protest, which is to be attached to the application of the picket organizers.
As Viktar Syrytsa noted, he is going to submit one more request for the picket, which is to satisfy all the requirements of the executive committee.
