Belarus` central election commission plans to hold a special meeting at the Palace of the Republic in downtown Minsk on February 17 or 21 to hand out registration certificates to presidential candidates.
Lidiya Yermoshina, chairwoman of the central election commission, said on Wednesday that the incumbent, Aleksandr Lukashenko, is expected to attend the meeting to receive his presidential candidate`s card.
Also seeking registration for the race are Aleksandr Milinkevich, who represents a wide range of opposition forces from communists to nationalists; Aleksandr Kozulin backed by Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada; and MP Sergei Gaidukevich, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party.
