Officer faces disciplinary action over illegal seizure of equipment from opposition activist`s home 11:20, 10/02/2006
The district prosecutor in Svetlogorsk, Gomel region, has brought a disciplinary action against a rank-and-file police officer over the illegal seizure of equipment and print matter from a local opposition activist.
Prosecutor Mikhail Prus found that officers had acted in violation of the Criminal Procedure Code when they had seized a photocopier, computer discs, copies of books, booklets and newspapers from the apartment of Telman Maslyukov, a member of the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF), in December 2005.
Mr. Maslyukov told BelaPAN that, according to witness accounts, Pyotr Zikun, deputy chief of the district police department, was in charge of the operation that involved six officers. The prosecutor, however, has bought the action against Dmitry Rogolevich, a rank-and-file officer whom he warranted to conduct only a visual inspection of the apartment.
Mr. Maslyukov said the police have returned him the photocopier only.
