Lukashenka Panics. KGB Goes Wild

Today organizer of independent observation at presidential elections at, Mikalay Astrejka (Nikolai Astrejko) has been seized by State Security Committee officers. Observer was detained by an armed group in black masks. As said by the wife of Mikalay Astrejka, they pulled a gun at him. The same KGB men in masks today have detained Tsimafei Dranchuk, an activist of Andrei Klimau movement. In the apartments of the both house searches were held: computers and printed materials confiscated. At the moment Dranchuk and Astrejka are interrogated in the KGB. Besides, in the regions of Belarus KGB officers searched in the apartments of opposition activists.

Searches were carried out in the apartments of public activistys of Polatsk region: Dzianis Saldatsenka from Polatsk, Alyaksei Trubkin, Hanna Korba, Zmitser Salauyou from Navapolatsk.

It is also known that searches were held in Vitsebsk and Homel. In Mahilyou during the search at the independent observer Aksana Zakreuskaya a computer was confiscated by KGB officers of KGB department of Mahilyou region. In Byhau a computer of observer Alyaksei Kupreeu was confiscated.

These searches, like the searches in the homes of Mikalay Astrejka and Tsimafei Dranchuk, have been carried out in the framework of criminal actions initiated for violation of the Article 367 Part 1 (Libel against President of the Republic of Belarus in print, or in a public address, or in mass media). It is still unknown who had given a sanction for searches.

During the house-cheks printed materials concerning election campaign, independent newspapers and other materials were confiscated.

The searches in the regions continue. The KGB and the Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus refuse to comment on the developments.
