Actions of Solidarity with Belarus to Continue on Election Day 15:54, 16/03/2006
Observers which were not allowed to enter Belarus, plan to spend the Election Day by the Belarusian border. On the voting day March 19 non-governmental organizations of Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine are organizing an action “We Wait For Belarus In Europe”. Its participants would be first of all observers denied the Belarusian visas.
Protesters are to organize a meeting on the Belarusian border with the aim to attract attention of the media and population of their countries to the problems of stamping out democracy in the neighbouring country. It’s an international protest: in Ukraine it is organized by PORA, the main originator of the Orange revolution, in Poland by several civil initiatives, in Lithuania – by the United Center of Belarusian Initiatives (JuBIC).
About 50 participants are to take part in the action in Lithuania: Lithuanian and Polish citizens and other dwellers pf the EU, for whom the entry to the EU is banned. The protest starts on March 19 at 11 a.m. by Lauryshava border crossing.
The official authorities have many times showed that the EU observers wouldn’t enjoy warm welcome in Belarus. And it was proved by practice: many citizens of foreign countries had been denied Belarusian visas. Some of them, who got visas, were arrested on arrival to Belarus.
