The single democratic candidate for presidency Alyaksandr Milinkevich and the former rector of the Belarusian State University Alyaksandr Kazulin, called upon the Belarusians to come to October Square in Minsk after polling stations’ closure at 8 p.m. As said by the candidates, the action is to have an exclusively peaceful character, and people are to come with flowers. “Everybody who supports changes is invited. Belarus would be able to make the right choice between the past and the future. There would be freedom and justice in the country,” told the candidate for presidency of democratic forces Alyaksandr Milinkevich. “We are sure that today evening thousands of people will come to the square today’s evening,” Milinkevich said. “We shall present flowers to riot policemen, policemen, and wish them happiness,” the candidate said.
Alyaksandr Kazulin also proposed to gather on the square, taking flowers, thermoses with hot tea and sweets, to give them to policemen. Kazulin said that he will come with his family, including his 4-year-old grandson.
“Dear citizens of Belarus! I urge you to be watchful! Act proceeding from law and purposefulness, not from emotions. It is known that today, on March 19, the authorities would perform provocations in any ways in the places of people’s throngs.
Be careful! Detain provocators, do not allow them to do their nasty job. Address to policemen near you and inform about people who had committed or are going to commit any provocations. You must know that people who break shopwindows, cars, using iron clubs, stones, are provocators. Take them to policemen! Today is the day of solidarity of citizens of Belarus. Today is the day of defense of the constitutional right for free self-determination. If you have decided to take to the streets and defend your right for dignified life in a free state, bring flowers, sweets and presents with you. Belarus is a peaceful country, the Belarusians are a peaceful nation,” told the candidate for presidency.
Today at a press conference in Minsk Alyaksandr Milinkevich told that “People are indignant at false figures, demonstrated by the CEC and so-called survey centers on TV”. “Nobody would believe to these figures, as they are greatly overstated. It’s simply an imitation of an exit-poll,” Milinkevich said.
The leader of the opposition also estimated the results of the election campaign as “positive”. “Despite of everything we have managed to get our message through to millions of voters, a real alternative to the existing regime of Lukashenka in the country”.
“We have visited more than 60 towns, met tens of thousands of people. We have told the truth to people, and they would not be able to live in the lies they had been living for 12 years under Lukashenka,” Milinkevich said.
