Investigation of Yury Zakharanka’s Abduction’s Case Extended Again
18:10, 10/05/2006

Investigation of the case of Yury Zakharanka’s abduction has been extended for two months. The last letter of investigators was received by Yury Zakharanka’s mother three years ago.

As the Radio Svaboda informs, in April the mother of the former Minister of Internal Affairs was admitted to a hospital with a heard disease. Ullyana Zakharanka was visited by like-minded persons of her son and his former colleagues at that time. But the woman had not been receiving information from the prosecutor’s office of Minsk for more than three years. Ullyana Zakharanka says that she does not have reliance upon investigators in clarifying her son’s fate:

“I do not know what they are doing. Maybe they are doing nothing. I do not trust in them. I didn’t received any information from them long ago. They have forgotten about me. Nobody cares about an old, ill and helpless woman,” she said.

Yury Zakharanka’s mother expressed thanks to all who remember her son and cares about investigation of his fate.

What are the results of the official investigation of the ex-Minister’s abduction?

A human rights activist Aleh Vouchak told to the radio Svaboda that the investigation of the abduction’s case had been extended for two months, until June 24. Aleh Vouchak, an authorized representative of the wife and elder daughter of the disappeared oppositionist, was informed about that by the prosecutor’s office of Minsk. Howeverm Mr. Vouchak is sceptical about investigator’s actions:

“There is no progress. There is no information about new interrogations. Nobody new was found. I thin they would temporize until this regime remain,” the human rights activist says.

An investigator of the city prosecutor’s office Syarhei Kukharonak rejects to talk about the case of Yury Zakharanka. He is also in charge of investigation of abductions of other oppositionists, Viktar Hanchar and Anatol Krasouski. There is no information about any new facts discovered in these cases.

The world community considers that the highest authorities of Belarus are responsible for abductions of Yury Zakharanka, as well as Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski and a journalist Zmitser Zavadski. The list of suspects in these crimes includes Viktar Shejman, Yury Sivakou, Uladzimir Navumau. Zmitser Paulichenka. They are banned entry to the EU countries and the USA.
