Riot Policemen Continue to Beat Up People

Yesterday duringdetention of youth activists near the court of Maskouski district of Minsk, riot policemen broke a finger of one of the detainees, Pavel Drazdou. The Charter’97 press center was informed about that by a human rights activist Ales Kalita. As said by him, at the moment pavel Drazdou is in the paddy wagon in front of the court of Maskouski district. Hearings in his administrative case are to start soon. At the moment the case of Krystsina Shatsikava is considered. As said by Ales Kalita, a lip of the girl is injured, and her jacket torn. It was done by riot policemen.

Prosecutor demands to sentence Yury Radzivil to 1.5 years of imprisonment

In the court of Maskouski district of Minsk a trial over opposition activist Yury Radzivil is underway. The prosecutor has demanded to sentence Yury Radzivil to a year and a half of prison.

Leaders of the Young Front Artur Finkevich and Zmitser Dashkevich are sentenced to 15 days of arrest by the court of Maskouski district of Minsk. Riot policemen seized them yesterday by the court of Maskouski district of Minsk. A case of oppositionist Yury Radzivil was tried there. The oppositionists have spent the night in the special detention center in Akrestsin Street. The young activists were charted with violation of the Article 156 of the Administrative Code (petty hooliganism) without any legal grounds for that. Riot policemen were witnesses in the court. They said that the young activists have allegedly used foul language. The politically motivated verdict has been passed by judge Syarhei Nikalaeu. Riot policemen Dzimtry Labkou was a witnessed against Artur Finkevich.

To improve the work of local government and self-administration bodies of the first level has, Alyaksandr Lukashenka stated at consultations on increase of the role of administration bodies in the questions of the population’s life support is a long-standing need. “The main thing in this discussion should be inviolability of the vertical of power from the top to the lowest level, and there should be no “exercises in democracy”. If we destroy this foundation -- and the primary level is the foundation of the vertical of power - then we could start a game of democracy, self-government and so on,” the Belarusian dictator noted.

Krystsina Shatsikava Taken From Court To Hospital

Youth activist Krystsina Shatsikava has been taken to the hospital number 9 of Minsk from the court of Maskouski district of Minsk today. She is diagnosed aggravation of chronic gastritis. The girl was detained yesterday near the court of Maskouski district together with youth leaders Artur Finkevich and Zmitser Dashkevich. She has spent a night in the pre-trial detention center. In the night she was in the hospital as well, but she was returned to the cell after a medical examination.

Zmitser Dashkevich Arrested For 15 Days

The leader of the Young Front Zmitser Dashkevich has been sentenced to 15 days of arrest by the court of Maskouski district. The young activist was arrested yesterday by riot policemen together with other activists who had gathered by the court of Maskouski district. The case of opposition activists Yury Radzivil was considered in the court. Thought there were no reasons for charging him, Zmitser Dashkevich was charged with violation of the Article 156 of the Administrative Code (petty hooliganism). Journalists and human rights watchdogs were not allowed to attend the hearing of Dashkevich’s case.

Oppositional Young Communist League Union Shut Down

The Supreme Court has suspended activities of Lenin Communist Youth Union of Belarus (LCYUB) (Young Communist League-Komsomol) for two months. The decision has been passed following the results of the court session on May 17.

May 16 was a day of solidarity with the families of the disappeared and politically imprisoned. After the actions SWAT detained 18 people. Among them are: Andrei Zorka, Mihas Naskou, Liuda Atakulava, Aliaksandr Kurbatski, Mikita Shytsiankou, Katsiaryna Dziatkouskaia, Nasta Shashkova, Zmitser Kniha, Zmitser Kumishcha, Andrei Presnik, Pavel Zhurpal, Aliaksandr Stsepanenka, Mikalai Siarheenka, Maksim Hrychuha, Ira Iankelevich, Aliaksandr Korban, Barysevich, A. Dareuski. The detained were released after documents checking.

The organizers of this forum are the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic, Furs Family Foundation, Human Rights School of Michigan University, the Supreme Economic Court press service informs.

Riot Policemen Detain People Near Court of Maskouski District

Today by the court of Maskouski district of Minsk policemen of the special task regiment (former SWAT) have detained a youth activist Iryna Zavadskaya. The Charter’97 press center has been informed about that by a human rights watchdog Ales Kalina. As we have informed, cases of youth activists Zmitser Dashkevich, Artur Finkevich, Alyaksei Straltsou and Krystsina Shatsikava are to be heard in the court of Maskouski district of Minsk today. These activists were detained by riot policemen yesterday as well.

At Night Krystsina Shatsikava Taken From Prison to Hospital

As the human rights center Viasna was informed, Krystsina Shatsikava who was detained by the court of Maskouski district of Minsk on May 17, a mother of two underage children, was taken to hospital number 9 in the night. She was diagnosed “aggravation of chronic gastritis”.

Today in the court of Maskouski district of Minsk trials over youth activists Zmitser Dashkevich, Artur Finkevich, Alyaksei Straltsou and Krystsina Shatsikava are to take place. Activists were detained yesterday by the court of Maskouski district of Minsk unfoundedly. Young people have come to support oppositionists Yury Radzivil and Yury Bachyshche, whose cases were tried in the court of Maskouski district. Zmitser Dashkevich, Artur Finkevich, Alyaksei Straltsou and Krystsina Shatsikava have spent the night in the special detention center in Akrestsin Street.

Belarus Will Trade Beltransgaz for Production Assets

First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko was quoted by the ITAR-TASS agency as saying “We are prepared to exchange assets, to place 50 percent of Beltransgaz in a Belarusian-Russian independent gas transport enterprise and receive assets in Gazprom`s gas producing structures that would allow us to produce 10-12 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year in Russia.” That way, Belarus would preserve its cheap gas supply in the face of Gazprom`s intentions of sharply raising the price of gas to that country.
