Miners Demand Advance of Wages

The [Belarusian] Independent Trade Union of Miners (BITU) demands increase in pay to workers of the enterprise Belaruskaliy. According to the trade union, there are grounds for that. The enterprise has concluded contract with main consumer of the production, China, a collective agreement has been signed, and which is more important, prices for the services and goods in the country are growing, and wages are decreasing, www.praca-by.info reports.

Stepashin: Nobody in Russia Propones Belarus’ Losing Independence

The head of the Chamber of Accounts of the Russian Federation, Russian federal audit agency, Sergei Stepashin, states that the leadership of Russia does not bring up and had never been bringing up an issue of Belarus merging Russia, Interfax informs. “Nobody in Russia says that in creation of the union state Belarus is to join Russia as a constituent entity of the Federation,” S. Stepashin said on Tuesday in Minsk, answering questions of journalists.

Baranavichy Authorities Banned Meeting with Milinkevich’s Participation

Baranavichy city executive committee refused to issue a sanction for holding a meeting with participation of the leader of Belarusian democratic forces Alyaksandr Milinkevich. The official letter names the reason for banning the meeting: on September 15 a meeting with participation of Milinkevich took place in Baranavichy already.

Lukashenka to Meet With Fidel?

Cuban leader Fidel Castro is set to meet participants of the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement which is to take place in Havana on September 11-16, he has said personally to the official newspaper of the Cuban Communist Party “Granma” on Tuesday. It is known that Alyaksandr Lukashenka plans to arrive to Havana to participate in the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Apartments of Vitsebsk Democratic Activists Searched

On September 5 searches have been carried out in the apartments of young activists Zhana Yamajkina and Mikita Abramenka. A mobile phone and computer of Yamajkina were seized. After the search Abramenka was taken to a police department for interrogation. As we have informed, on July 26 searches were carried out in the apartments of young activists Tatsyana DZyadok, Tatsyana Yalavaya, Yauhen Babkovich and Alena and Katsyaryna Kazak.

Administration of Plants in Expectation of Sanctions

Administration of the joint stock company “Polatsk-Shklavalakno” is as before interfering with the work of the primary organization of the Free Trade Union of Belarus (FTUB). The consideration of the question of giving premises for its office has been delayed for a long time under different pretexts, the internet- source www.praca-by.info informs. As we have informed, in November last year the employee refused to extend the contract for rent of the trade union office.

Alyaksandr Milinkevich: France Demonstrates Support to Democratic Forces of Belarus

“It is no coincidence that we visited France. France, as compared to all other EU countries, probably has the closest relations with Russia. At the same time, over the last months France has many times demonstrated its support to democratic forces in Belarus, that is why I am convinced that our position on non-admission of a referendum and non-recognition of its results, would be conveyed by French diplomacy to Russia,” told the leader of the united democratic forces of Belarus Alyaksandr Milinkevich, summing up the first results of his visit to France. On September 1-2 in Marseille Milinkevich met representatives of French government, French Interior Minister, Nicolas Sarkozy, Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy, Minister on the EU Affairs and Neighbouring countries Catherine Colonna and President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Pierre Lelouche.
